Birthday

Pin It Now! It was just my birthday recently.  I've always wanted a summer birthday so I could head to a local beach, but I guess a local bar will have to do.

After watching jersey shore I had a serious pasta craving so we ended up getting some Italian for lunch.  I don't know what it is about watching jersey people that always makes me want to eat spaghetti and meatballs.  I ended up wearing a knit long sleeved dress I picked up in Atlanta for 12 bucks!  I really need to hem it a bit but haven't had time.  The leather jacket is one of my favorite pieces right now.  The leather's butter soft with a broken in feel and slight sparkle that you can't see.  I love the knit panel on the sleeves.  Not sure how I feel about the docs with this dress...

Later that night we headed into a new bar I discovered the previous weekend for some drinks...this is the only picture since I was too busy drinking to take any.  It was surprisingly chilly so I layered this flannel shirt under my leather jacket for some extra warmth

The next morning we ended up nursing our hang overs (no I didn't have one thanks to the water I kept drinking all night) at Cafe Bonaparte.  The crepes were forgettable but the fries and onion soup were exactly what I'd been hankering for.

Goin' to the country a Photolog

Pin It Now!

Driving through quaint tree lined country roads, making random pit stops at gas stations, roasting marshmallows in an open fire place, climbing trees, making 5 inches of bubbles in a jet tub while drinking wine, all elements in a relaxing weekend at a bed & breakfast in Virginia.  Having tried for a year to find the time to go to Gristmill Inn, I finally made it happen this past weekend for some much needed R&R.

I love Uggs so don't hate

Pin It Now! Why is there such a hate for Uggs?  I just don't get it.  Especially on Chictopia, it's like reverse bullying of a shoe.  The popular shoe being constantly beaten down by its sometimes even uglier cohorts.  And yes I've seen some ugly shoes on Chictopia voted to the style gallery.  I'll admit when Uggs first came out and every teeny bobber and celebrity out there was wearing them, the trend didn't really take with me.  But I didn't hate Uggs, I was merely indifferent and unwilling to spend so much on a pair of boots.  Then it happened, I randomly stuck my foot in one just to see how it would feel, and I was sold.  The soft shearling caressed my foot in a pillow of softness and warmth.

However I could not bring myself to buy a pair.  So instead my dear boyfriend (knowing how much I wanted them) gave them to me as a surprise christmas present.  That is how I came to own my first pair of Uggs, I wore them for two winters/falls/springs straight, through soggy rain and chilly snow.  They finally gave out and were no longer soft and cushy on the bottom.  Hence came my second pair of Uggs which are not the ones pictured.  The ones pictured aren't even real Uggs!  Let's call them Fuggs = Fake Uggs.

So now I wear my Uggs proudly and buy them myself instead of needing someone to buy them for me.  Shoes, can't they all just get along!

So glad Rouge Spa in Leesburg, VA extended their Spa Week specials.  Rubin gave me the best massage ever, he really worked out all the knots in my neck and shoulders.  The facial had a bit too much scrubbing in it for my taste though.  After wards we went to a little cafe next door for soup and sandwiches.  I wish every day could be like this

leather on leather

Pin It Now! I've always debated whether or not I could pull off the leather on leather look (leather bottom plus leather jacket).  To me it always seemed like it would belong in some sorta underground S&M club.  But here it's pulled off rather well.  I've been looking for leather shorts everywhere!

I also love her docs!  Makes me wish I had gotten the shorter ones than the tall ones that I have.

Smokey Eyes

Pin It Now! I've been a huge fan of the smokey eye since discovering black eye shadow from mac...I've never used another black eyeshadow with equal pigmentation.  Totally loving this look from Marc Jacobs.

Asian Fusion

Pin It Now! I've had many incarnations of fusion cuisine and most are yummy, but I've never had good or even decent Asian fusion.  Maybe it's the Americanization aspect of most Asian fusion restaurants, but it always seems out of balance, the chef never incorporating the good parts of each Asian food well.  Great ideas, but usually poorly executed.

But a few days ago I decided to do my own version of Asian fusion.  Instead of melding ingredients and cooking styles from multiple Asian cultures, I simply served 2 dishes together.  The pairing rather enhanced each dish rather than try to create something new and mediocre.

For this meal I had Thai Papaya Salad and Chinese Sticky Rice.  They actually compliment each other quite well.  Though Thai people actually do eat sticky rice with their papaya salad, its usually plain steamed.  Chinese sticky rice on the other hand has all sorts of yummy ingredients like dried scallops, shrimp, and shitake mushrooms steamed with the rice to form an aromatic dish ready to eat all on its own.

But the 2 dishes together it was magic, spicy and refreshingly cold papaya salad was the perfect counter point to the more meaty warm and gooey sticky rice.  A great dinner finished off with some lemonade that's not too sweet!  Cheers!

Feather Skirt

Pin It Now! Ever since I went with a friend to peruse wedding gowns at Nordstrom's for her upcoming wedding and spotted a Robert Rodriguez feather skirt on a hanger, I was immediately obsessed.
Something about the swishiness of the feathers made my heart skip a beat.  I was in love....but at around $400 I could not afford to indulge on something so trendy.  But to my surprise a few months later and after said wedding, I spotted a similar piece at ASOS for about 1/8 of the cost!  I've already worn it several times, but I don't think it's going to last very long considering I'm losing feathers every time I wear it, like a molting bird.
